Village Board Meeting

Village Board Meeting Rules for Public Comment

There will be two opportunities for the public to speak at the Village Board of Trustees meeting on March 9, 2021, at 7:00 PM. Both opportunities will be in-person only. The Village Board of Trustees adopted rules for public comment in 2017. The rules allow each person three minutes to speak. A total of 30 minutes are allotted for each public comment portion of the meeting. Please click here to view the full ordinance. As stipulated in the rules, public comments must be non-repetitive, relevant, and respectful.

HEAR FROM THE AUDIENCE
This portion of the meeting is intended only for individuals who want to comment on something OTHER than what is on the agenda. Thirty minutes are allotted for this public comment period with each speaker granted three minutes to speak.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Comments for items ON the agenda are opened to the public when the board considers the items and before the board votes. The mayor will ask for public comments on the rezoning when agenda item number 10 is reached. The opportunity to speak on the rezoning is at that point of the meeting and NOT during the "hear from the audience" portion of the meeting.

After a short presentation on the rezoning, the trustees will have an opportunity to make comments, after which, a summary of comments submitted by email will be read. Persons attending the meeting in-person will then have an opportunity to speak. Thirty minutes are allotted for this public comment period with each speaker granted three minutes to speak. After public comments are heard, the Trustees' vote is taken.

The practice for previous Board of Trustee meetings has been to give the public the opportunity to only view and listen to the meeting via Zoom. Public comments were not heard from those participating via Zoom during past Village Board meetings and the same practice will apply to the March 9 meeting.

Individuals who wish to make a comment must provide their name in writing before entering the village hall.

To attend the meeting in-person, please note there will be room capacity limits to maintain social distancing. Everyone entering the building must wear a mask covering their nose and mouth.

Due to building capacity limits, the public is strongly encouraged to submit comments before the meeting and listen to the meeting via Zoom or dial-in. The meeting is accessible via Zoom, as allowed by Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order 2020-07 and Section 7(e) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act.

Persons may submit written comments to the Board of Trustees by email comments@homewoodil.gov or by leaving written comments in the dropbox in front of the Village Hall. All comments received by 4:00 pm on March 9 will be distributed to all trustees.
