Village Board Meeting

At the January 26, 2021, Village of Homewood Board of Trustees meeting, the Village Board will consider an agreement to settle a lawsuit filed against the Village by the purchaser of the former Calumet Country Club property to disconnect the property from Homewood.

This settlement agreement is the culmination of intense negotiations to avoid a trial that would be extremely challenging for Homewood to win. If disconnected, the property owner could annex into the Village of Hazel Crest. Without this property remaining in Homewood, the Village would have no say in the proposed development of a distribution/fulfillment center, nor would it have any ability to mitigate impacts to residents. The property owner will develop a distribution/fulfillment center whether the property is in Homewood or Hazel Crest. While this use is not preferred, the Village has no good options other than to consider settling the lawsuit if it wishes to keep the property in Homewood and maintain some control over the development.

The judge has set a March 5, 2021 trial date. Because time is of the essence to reach a settlement and avoid trial, a settlement agreement will be considered at the Board of Trustees meeting on January 26, 2021.

A full agenda and additional information will be posted on Friday, January 22, 2021, to the village website, homesweethomewood.com. The public may submit questions and comments by email to comments@homewoodil.gov or by placing written comments in the drop box outside the Village Hall no later than 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Questions submitted prior to this deadline will be answered at the board meeting. All questions submitted thereafter will be posted and answered on the village website, homesweethomewood.com.

Please note, all repeat comments and questions will be read and/or answered only once.
