The Village of Homewood and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

The Village of Homewood is aware of recent immigration enforcement activity in the Chicagoland area conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies. We understand that this may cause concern, fear, or uncertainty for some members of our community. Please know that the safety, dignity, and well-being of all Homewood residents remain our highest priority.

In alignment with the Illinois TRUST Act, the Homewood Police Department will not participate in, or assist with federal immigration enforcement operations. While federal agencies have the legal authority to operate within our community, Homewood Police are prohibited from interfering with their lawful duties. All of our officers are trained in the requirements of the TRUST Act and are committed to upholding its provisions.

It’s important to clarify that while our officers continue to enforce state laws and local ordinances—such as responding to crimes or maintaining public safety during events—these actions are not related to immigration enforcement. Our mission to serve and protect is rooted in fairness and respect. When residents call 911, Homewood Police Officers respond alone—not with ICE. Homewood officers do not inquire about immigration status, nor do they detain individuals based solely on that status. We also do not assist immigration agents in conducting investigations.

We recognize that these are sensitive times for many families. If you have questions or concerns about immigration enforcement activity, we encourage you to contact the appropriate federal agencies directly, as the Homewood Police Department does not have information about these operations.

We remain committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all who call Homewood home.
