Barbara Dawkins has been an active resident of Homewood for 17 years. She has served on the Village Board as a Village Trustee for the last 8 years and is currently the President Pro Tem of the Village Board. Barbara has served as a liaison to the Community Relations Commission, the Ethics Commission and Zone Board. Prior to serving as Trustee, Barbara served on the Police Chiefs Citizens Advisory Committee and the Fire and Police Commission.

Barbara has been an Assistant State's Attorney at the Cook County State's Attorney's Office for 18 years. Barbara is currently a supervisor in the Juvenile Justice Division where she supervises all suburban juvenile prosecutions. She has worked in the Appeals Division, the Felony Review Unit, the Felony Trial Division, and the Gang Crimes Unit where she prosecuted gang-related homicides. Barbara is a member of the National Black Prosecutors Association, the Cook County Bar Association, and she is the Co-Chairperson of the Judicial Committee of the South Suburban Juvenile Justice Council.

Barbara earned a B.A. in Political Science at Northwestern University and a law degree from Vanderbilt University. She has a 3 year old son who attends pre-school and who also plays the violin.
