Business License Application
The information below is only for businesses that are new, relocating, expanding, or changing owners. Renewal applications are not available online.
All businesses that are located in the Village of Homewood are required to obtain either a Business License or a Business Operation Certificate prior to opening. This ensures that businesses comply with zoning, building, and fire code requirements.
The following list can be used to determine which application is required for your business.
A Business License is required for the following types of businesses:
- Food dealer (restaurants, grocers, bakeries, etc.)
- Laundry/Dry cleaner
- Pharmacy
- Gas station
- Commercial childcare center
- Kennel
- Nursing home
- Secondhand goods
A Business Operation Certificate is required for most other types of businesses. Some examples of these are:
- General office space
- Salon
- Retail store other than food dealer
- Bank
- Doctor, dentist, or law office
Both types of applications can be submitted and tracked online. Please be sure to have the following items ready to upload with your application.
- Floor plan showing the layout of the business (required for all applications)
- State of Illinois professional licenses that you or your employees hold (if applicable)
- Food service sanitation license (if the business involves food handling)
To begin your application, follow the instructions below and click here.
- Create an account by entering an email and password (will send verification email)
- Click the link in the verification email to access the application portal
- Click on My Portal (Go)
- Click on Apply Online (Apply)
- Choose “Business License” category on first screen, then select Business License or Business Operation Certificate (according to the list above)
- Complete and submit the application with all requirements listed above
