Homewood’s charming downtown offers development sites for transit-oriented development. Located within steps of the Metra/Amtrak station, Homewood's downtown is pedestrian, bike, and transit-friendly. The Village's center offers an eclectic mix of residences with restaurants, boutique stores, and cultural and educational experiences.

The newly completed Martin Avenue Square invites the community to gather for farmers' markets or one of the over 60 outdoor events held annually. The Homewood Science Center draws visitors from the surrounding areas and Chicago to engage in education and cultural experiences. Homewood is also home to the world’s largest collection of Richard Haas Trompe-l’oeil murals.

Homewood's Central Business District (CBD) is anchored by regionally known restaurants, delightful specialty shops, tree-lined sidewalks, and modern streetscapes, inviting pedestrians to walk, shop, eat, and converse with neighbors and friends. Downtown is the home of a bustling commuter station; Homewood Station accommodates both Metra and Amtrak train lines. Halsted Street Retail Corridor

The Halsted Street Retail Corridor is easily accessed by both residents and visitors immediately south of I-80/294. The corridor offers shopping on a larger scale, featuring nationally and regionally recognized retailers, including Home Depot, Menards, Old Navy, Kohl's, Target, Best Buy, Five Below, Potbelly, Chick-fil-A, Portillo's, Crumbl Cookie's, Burlington, Petco, Smoothie King, Chili's, Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Chipotle, Dave's Hot Chicken, and Panera Bread. 

Southgate Shopping Area

The Southgate Shopping Area was recently expanded with more than 6,000 sf of additional commercial space. The Southgate shopping area recently underwent a facelift and received over $300,000 in infrastructure improvements. The Southgate Shopping area is located on Dixie Highway from 186th Place south to the Village limits. Local businesses include Maple Tree Inn, Cilantro Mexican Restaurant, Thomas Photographic, Art Corner, and Cold Stone Creamery.

Cherry Creek Shopping Center

The Cherry Creek Shopping Center includes national retailers, locally-renowned retailers, and personal service establishments. Retailers include Walgreens, Subway, Forever Yogurt, Pop's Italian Beef, and Ace Hardware. The Cherry Creek Shopping Center is located on Governors Highway south of 183rd Street.

Westgate Shopping Area

The Westgate Shopping Area includes service businesses such as dry cleaners, restaurants, drug stores, hair care, and grocery stores. The Westgate shopping area is located on 183rd Street just west of Park Avenue. Retailers include Walt's Food Center, Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins, and more.

Kedzie Gateway Business Area

The Kedzie Gateway Business Area includes businesses such as retailers, restaurants, car dealerships, and grocery stores. The Westgate shopping area is located on 183rd Street near the intersection of Kedzie Avenue. Retailers include Ollie's, Jewel Osco, Ford of Homewood, American Bagel, and more.

Prairie Lakes Business Park

Prairie Lakes Business Park is part of a 172-acre natural preserve located in Homewood at 175th Street between Halsted Street and Ashland Avenue. The business park was developed with office, warehouse/ distribution, and light industrial buildings with space available for expansion. The lots are nestled among more than 60 acres of storm water lakes, native prairies, and an oak savannah.
