Commuting

Homewood’s charming downtown is home to an eclectic mix of residences with restaurants, boutique stores and cultural and educational experiences. In addition, Homewood’s downtown is ideally situated within blocks of the Metra station to be pedestrian and bike and transit-friendly.

The Metra Electric Line provides environmentally-friendly, fast and consistently reliable service to numerous stops in Chicago for work or play. Chicago is 30 minutes by train from Homewood during rush hour service. Plan your trip here.

There's no need to go to Chicago to catch the Amtrak. College students can take the train to University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and a variety of places all around the country.

Easy access and an extensive transportation network has made Homewood a top 20 transit suburb by the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul University.

Homewood's geographic position is ideal with quick access to the Tri-State Tollway (I-80, I-94/I-294), the Bishop Ford Freeway, I-57 and Lincoln Highway (U.S. Route 30) as well as Amtrak rail service.

Parking

Seven free public parking lots are located throughout the downtown area and are available to shoppers, residents, and employees of the downtown. These lots provide 3-hour parking throughout the week for all customers/shoppers in the downtown and on weekends.

An additional parking lot for patrons of the downtown is the Village Hall Parking Lot. The lot is available for use on weeknights and anytime on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Overnight parking or parking over multiple days is not allowed.
