Downtown Parking Zones
New in 2024, the Village of Homewood has created parking zones to manage parking resources and make parking easier to find for residents and visitors alike.
Have you ever noticed that many Downtown businesses don't have much parking right in front of the business? This is because many buildings Downtown were built before the automobile became popular. Much of Downtown Homewood's parking is located on Village streets or in public parking lots. Additionally, Downtown is an area with lots of pedestrians moving between activities close to one another; that street life can be harmed by improperly placed or managed parking. Managing parking and balancing that parking with the needs of bicyclist, pedestrians and transit users is critical to the success and vibrancy of Downtown Homewood.
The parking zones allow the Village to manage available public parking in different areas of Downtown while ensuring it is easy to use other modes of transportation in Downtown Homewood, which was designated as a transit-oriented development area with the adoption of the Downtown TOD Master Plan in 2024. Village Economic and Community Development staff use the parking zones to measure parking needs and concentrate parking management and capacity efforts in different areas of Downtown as needed.
