The Homewood Fire Department will host its annual open house on Saturday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Homewood Fire Department located at 17950 Dixie Hwy.

The public is invited to attend this free event. Interactive exhibits will include how to prevent and survive a fire inside your home and what it takes to be prepared for a major emergency. Children will be able to touch the fire trucks, engines, ambulances, honk the horns inside the apparatus’, and take many photos. Eventgoers will be able to take photos with the firefighters and paramedics and learn how the fire engine pumps water. There will be a live fire demonstration and the importance of sprinkler systems. The open house will also feature a Fire Safety Superhero obstacle course for children ages three to eight.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Support K-9 Unit, Cook County Emergency Management, and Regional Security Agency will be on-site answering questions about staying safe in emergency situations. Additionally, UCAN’s Medical Evacuation helicopter is scheduled to land in the Village Hall parking lot before the end of the event.
