To honor the anniversary of Mayor Richard Hofeld’s rescue from a frozen pond while trying to retrieve his dog, the Village offers the opportunity for participants to take a dip in into a swimming pool erected outside in Martin Ave Square then warm up in the Homewood Science Center.

Mayor Hofeld broke through the ice at a local pond in the Izaak Walton Preserve on December 10, 2018 while attempting to rescue the family dog from the icy waters. Mayor Hofeld was in the water for 20 minutes before being rescued. Both he and his dog Annie made a full recovery.
