The Village of Homewood, a municipal corporation located in Cook County, Illinois, is a governmental agency that operates under the council-manager form of government as provided in the Illinois Municipal Code. A President and Board of Trustees, all elected at-large, establish the policies, programs, and services of the Village. An elected Village Clerk serves as the official record-keeper of the Village. There are many boards, commissions, and committees comprised of citizens that advise the President and Board on a variety of topics from planning and zoning to personnel recruitment, selection, and promotion. The Village Board of Trustees meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall to carry out its responsibilities. A Village Manager, appointed by the President and Board executes the governing body’s directives and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Village.

The Finance Department, located at 2020 Chestnut Road, directs all financial operations of the Village and provides many internal services to operating departments. The department is responsible for payroll, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, risk management, employee benefits administration, business and liquor licensing, vehicle and animal licensing, water and sewer billing, revenue collection, voter registration, and processing freedom of information requests.

 The Public Works Department, located at 17755 Ashland Avenue, is responsible for water distribution, wastewater collection, storm water collection and detention, maintenance of most public streets, snow removal from streets, maintenance of traffic signals, traffic control signs and street signs, maintenance of public sidewalks, and maintenance of the Village’s fleet, buildings, and grounds.

 The Fire Department, located at 17950 Dixie Highway, provides fire suppression, emergency medical, hazardous materials mitigation, and rescue services to all locations in Homewood. The department also inspects all commercial occupancies, applicable home-based businesses, and all multi-family occupancies within the Village limits, and is responsible for building inspections and the property code enforcement program.

The Police Department, located at 17950 Dixie Highway, is responsible for the enforcement of all state and municipal laws in the Village. The Manager’s Office, located at 2020 Chestnut Road, oversees the functions of the Village’s economic development, planning, and zoning ordinances, marketing, communications, information technology, community events, human resources, and is responsible for the general administration for the Village.

The Village’s total operating budget for the fiscal year ending on April 30, 2022, is approximately $47,000,000. The Village has 112 full time employees and 33 part time employees structured according to the following chart:
