Building Permit Applications

Building permits are required for all new construction, demolition and most home improvement projects, including:
- New Additions
- Accessibility Ramps
- Decks & Covered/Enclosed Porches (including repairs to existing decks)
- Driveway
- Electrical
- Fences
- Fire Suppression or Detection System
- Garage
- HVAC (New residential systems only/All new and existing commercial systems)
- Interior remodel
- Parking Lot Sealcoating/Re-striping
- Paving-Concrete/Asphalt/Paver Brick
- Plumbing
- Roofing
- Siding, Soffit/Fascia, Gutter
- Satellite Dish (over 6' in diameter)
- Sheds
- Signs, temporary
- Signs, permanent
- Swimming Pools & Hot Tubs
- Underground Storage Tank (removal and installation)
- Water/Sewer Repair
- Water/Sewer Connection
- Windows
Building Permits requiring plan review may take a minimum of two weeks for approval.

Inspections
Most construction projects require a building permit before work can begin. To schedule an inspection, contact the Building Department at 708-206-3385 at least 24 hours in advance of when the inspection is needed.
Contractor Registration
All contractors performing work in the Village must be registered. Registration must be renewed annually. Download and fill out a Contractor Registration Application.

If you have a complaint concerning a contractor who has performed work on your property, please complete the Contractor Complaint Form and submit it to the Building Department.
Dumpsters
If your construction project requires the use of a dumpster, you must obtain a Temporary Dumpster Permit. Only licensed scavenger services are permitted to deliver and remove roll-off dumpsters and their contents from private property in the Village.
Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program
The Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP) helps low income residents and households conserve fuel and reduce energy costs by making their homes and apartments more energy efficient. IHWAP also provides many health and safety upgrades ensuring safe and healthy homes. Energy conservation and health and safety measures provided through home weatherization can ensure citizens have access to more affordable energy services.
