The Village of Homewood Fire Department is partnering with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance and the Office of the State Fire Marshal to give away and install in your home FREE smoke alarms. The program at this time is available to Homewood residents 60 years of age and older.

If you currently have working smoke detectors in your home, they may not need to be replaced. If your smoke detectors are less than 10 years old and in good working condition there is no reason to replace them. If you have a dual smoke detector for both smoke and carbon monoxide, and it’s under 10 years old, you do not need to apply for this program.

In order to receive your free smoke alarm(s) you MUST fill out the google form to register.

No phone appointments will be accepted.

Here’s how to qualify for a free smoke detector with free installation:

  • Residents must be 60 years or older at time of application
  • Smoke alarms will be given to and installed on a first come, first served basis; no specific appointment requests will be accepted
  • Homewood residents must show valid proof of residency at time of installation
  • Up to two (2) smoke alarms per residence
  • Resident MUST be home during installation
  • Installation will take place ONLY on the following days and times (Tues / Thurs; 8a-11a)
