2024 Update

As development continues to expand in downtown Homewood, including various new residential and mixed-use projects, the Village has revisited the parking study to ensure that parking demand is sufficient to support new and existing traffic in the Village's Downtown.

On November 26, 2024, Village staff presented the findings of the parking study to the Village Board of Trustees and the public and provided opportunities for comment. The presentation summarized then findings of the parking study and provided insight into ongoing work to improve parking availability in downtown Homewood alongside new development proposed.

2019 Study

In December 2018, the Village of Homewood commissioned Konig, Lindgren, O'Hara and Albonna Inc. (KLOA) to perform a complete parking study of the northern area of downtown Homewood. This study was designed to assess the impacts of two new developments in downtown Homewood and provide parking recommendations for ensuring parking supply in downtown. The study assessed the impacts of:

  • Residential development on Village Hall Parking Lot site (2020 Chestnut Road)
  • Performing arts center redevelopment of the Homewood-Flossmoor Auditorium

The parking study completed an inventory of all public parking in downtown Homewood, including all six public parking lots and twelve key private parking lots, to determine current demand for parking and ways to improve parking access in downtown Homewood as new development continues. The inventory was done at the following times to create a complete picture of Downtown parking needs:

  • Weekdays (court and non-court days)
  • Weekends (event and non-event days)

The study included nearly one dozen recommendations to follow to ensure parking for downtown visitors and residents in tandem with new developments. These recommendations have guided Village downtown planning for nearly six years, leading the acquisition of several new parking lots, proposed street redesigns and new connections, and new parking agreements.
