Flood and Storm Water Relief
The Village will assist residents who experience flooding in their yards by providing design and engineering consultation and some materials to create proper drainage. Residents need to perform the installation themselves or by hiring a contractor. Contact the Department of Public Works at 708-206-3470 for more information on this service.
The Stormwater Resource Committee is made up of residents who meet throughout the year with Public Works staff to discuss flooding concerns and abatement projects. The committee identifies flooding problems in Homewood and works with Village staff and engineers to develop solutions and disseminate information on how property owners can protect themselves against flood damage. Residents with flooding concerns are encouraged to attend a meeting of the Stormwater Committee to discuss their flooding situation. Check the the Village Calendar to find the next scheduled meeting.
The Department of Public Works requests the assistance of residents to keep storm grates located at the curb of their homes clear of debris. Although every effort is made to keep these grates clean, the Spring and Fall seasons present a challenge as the seeds and leaves fall as quickly as the storm grates are cleaned. There are thousands of these storm grates throughout the Village. Keeping the storm grate closest to your house clear of debris will provide the best possible storm water drainage for your neighborhood, which is particularly important in the event of a heavy rainfall. The assistance residents provide is greatly appreciated throughout the entire community.
